"The Kinesthetic Classroom" Join SHAPE America’s 2015 National Health Education Teacher of the Year Andy Horne and 2017 National Health Teacher of the Year Andy Milne, as they share ideas about how they have successfully incorporated movement into their teaching in order to engage students and increase the likelihood of academic success.  There will also be a live performance of an infamous Mr. H “Scholarly Rap” on the brain and exercise based off of Dr. John Ratey’s book entitled Spark.
Details: This session will provide some of the neuroscience explaining why movement is important for student learning. These participatory methods allow for a more student-centered environment that is both experiential and interactive.  They will share resources and activities that can be adapted to best suit the needs of your students. 
  • Attendees will be exposed to kinesthetic activities and assessments that can be adapted to various content areas.
  • Attendees will learn different teaching strategies to engage various types of learners through movement.
  • Attendees will have a better understanding of why a kinesthetic classroom is important for student learning and how to seamlessly weave more movement into their pedagogical methods.
